I went to Haro

Yes its true, I can say I went to Haro, and had a good education!
And here is the proof !

That’s were we are to day, and I’ve been duped into another destination with a ulterior motive, and I bet you all can guess what !! YES you have it – wine. Haro is one of the main towns for Rioja production every street corner has another factory on it. The lovely ancient town has wine merchants everywhere and dad says they are selling the very best the region offers (so there won’t be 20 bottles purchased today then!) The site is very nice, and there are many English here some are waiting for the next Bilbao ferry in a couple of days other like us on the way into Spain. We have already had the washer and drier running, chatted up the girl on reception for some information leaflets, and been on a long walk around town. So my education is now complete, of Haro at least !
A picture taken about the time time dads were in short trousers

It was not an uneventful journey here, even if it was only 190 km. On route we skirted San Sebastian, but did it with hundreds of lorries. It’s a busy with its Port and that of Bilbao and the industries around there. “Son of Tom Tom”, is just a bit to eager to please. Today he thought it would be ok for us to use a new motorway to speed us to destination. Only problem it will a couple of years before it’s completed. Alan found the correct road, G627 towards Vitoria Gasteiz, but Tom Tom was instant we needed to get on the new road, so several times told us to take the first exit on the next roundabout. Only one problem, the roundabouts like the road have not been built yet. Alan said that at least we will have an up-to-date map in 2 years when they open the road. And its quite fun with our electronic friend in the cab, as while we were in France his pronunciation of French roads and towns was a little odd. Now in Spain, its sounds like we have someone from star ship Galactica with us, His Spanish pronunciation is just a scream, with all those X, Ñ,Z, Ú in every word Alan says it sounds like the Fishmen in Stingray what every they were in what ever that was ( they sound like aliens at times, obviously not educated at Haro!)
If you look you can see the road supports for the new road Tom Tom expected us to take

So a white knuckle ride instead, the main road is about 30km of hairpins going up, down and around the mountains in north Spain. Picturesque, yes, but with long articulated lorries in front and behind us, it was a slowish nerve-racking journey. But dad was in control so we got here ok, yet another reason its better to be a dog, someone else drives you everywhere, while you chill and enjoy the view from the window.
And the road in the sky, NEVER trust the electronic road expert !

But we all know it’s a small world, when we parked up on site we chatted to the couple next to us who had a dog sign in the window. I thought I would have a mate, but apparently they bought it to deter break-ins, which they had while they had been in Spain. While chatting a socialising with 3 couples, they were broken into, by someone creeping in from the dunes behind then, they were only 20 ft away while it was happening, they only got the ladies makeup bag, so unless he was a drag queen, he will have been disappointed. The small world was because they come from 8 miles up the road from where we live in Lincolnshire.
One up on your neigbours, the biggest birds nest on your roof.

So tonight I will snooze by a babbling stream in the middle of Rioja country while they sleep of the bounty of Rioja country (again!)

Hasta luego
